July 24, 2011- Wheel Bug - Arilus cristatus. Posting late today, I shot this with a flash as it was getting dark out and I wanted to show more of its features. These guys are considered a true bug in the bug world. They are classified as assassin bugs with that set up I can see why. Looks like a true monster as far as bugs go. For an interesting read on these guys: http://entnemdept.ufl.edu/creatures/trees/wheel_bug.htm (205:365)
Thank you for all the comments on my shot yesterday! Professor Layton was very impressed!
